Australian Ringneck - Barnardius zonarius
Sightings:
Hattah-Kulkyne National Park, Vic.: 2016:
Ormiston Gorge, N.T.: 2016: July.
Flinders Ranges N.P., S.A.: 2016: September.
Notes:
The Australian Ringneck is a group of 4 sub-species, and the above image is the nominate race, which is a bird of mostly inland central and western Australia.
The sub-species of the east is barnardi, and the birds below were seen in Hattah-Kulkyne National Park in north western Victoria.
The sub-species senitorquatus occurs in southern W.A. The bird below isn't showing the slight red feathering above the bill though. They are popularly known as 28s from their call, although I can't say that it sounded particularly like that to me! They are quite vocal though.
