Notes:

A common bird around Melbourne.   A member of the Honeyeater family, and in spring sometimes swoops unsuspecting passersby!


The photo was taken with a long lens and is cropped.   The Miner nested right beside a walking path, and in a bush about 2 metres high instead of a tree.  It's interesting to note the use of man-made waste in the nest!

They feed amongst the leaves of eucalypts, on grevillea flowers and also on the ground.

They will chase other birds that come into their territory from small (Pardalote) to large (Little Pied Cormorant).
