Red-throated Loon (Diver)

Red-throated Loon (Diver) - Gavia stellata

Sightings:

Iceland:  several places, 2012:  July.
U.S.A.:  Nome, 2015:  August.

Notes:

Distinctive in breeding plumage, with the dark red of the throat being distinctive.

I think this one is on a nest as it was in the same position the previous day.

Their bill is slightly upward pointing.

They're a large bird so it takes a bit of a run  to take off.

The underwings are whitish.

Take-off accomplished with a bit of a splash!
