Razorbill

Razorbill - Alca torda

Sightings:

Iceland:  Latrabjarg, 2012:  July.

Notes:

Distinctive because of the bill with its white marking.  Breeding on the cliffs at Latrabjarg with Atlantic Puffins, Common Murres and Black-legged Kittiwakes.

I think a pair interacting as I think it would be too early for a check to be in adult plumage.

The lining of their bill and mouth is a dark gold which really stood out against the dark head.

Their wings are relatively small for the size of the bird, but no doubt assist when they are diving underwater for their food.

What a setting!

Making the most of the midnight sun about 10 p.m.

Taking the plunge!
