Whiskered Tern - Chlidonias hybridus
Sightings:
Western Treatment Plant, Werribee: 2014: September.
Notes:
A summer visitor to southern Australia with the birds here being in breeding plumage. They have red bills and legs then, black heads with the black going down the back of the neck, and dark bellies. They occur in groups and seem to just get insects just above the surface of water, not usually diving for it, though they do at times.
