Yellow-billed Loon

Yellow-billed Loon - Gavia adamsii

Sightings:

Kolyuchin Inlet, Chukotka, Russia:  2015:  August.

Notes:

The yellow bill really stands out and makes these easy to distinguish.

They are a large bird, so landing isn't totally easy!  This series of 3 illustrates that.

(Those shapes on the horizon are Sandhill Cranes.)

Later in the afternoon, we were so lucky as to see a pair displaying, but unfortunately not really close.

It seemed slightly unusual at what would be the end of the breeding season, but may not be.
